Farewell the rock of the Family!

Sunday, December 7th at approximately 10:00a.m. I received a call from my father (Kent) letting me know that Shawna had informed him that grandpa was back in the hospital. As quickly as we could, dad, Tammy and I jumped in the car and headed for Salt Lake. Monday morning we headed for the hospital. We found grandpa there resting the best he could with the oxygen and ivies. He smiled and seemed pleased to see us there. We even discussed how he felt, and the fact that was widely known that he just wanted to go home to grandma. Lunch arrived with apple cobbler, potatoes, roast beef and cantelope. It was exhusting for him to eat as he was dependent on the oxygen. I encourage him that he needed his strength to get him home. He allowed me to assist him with his cantelope as we discussed which pieces seemed to be more juicy that the others. As the day progress we knew that we would be getting him home that afternoon. We were very excited to know he was going home the Shawnas to be with grandma; but not knowing how long we had with him was obviously on our minds. The above picture was taken just a short periord after getting him home on Monday, December 8th around 5:30 p.m.,
not knowing that this would be the last time I would get to talk with him, touch him, feel his sweet strong spirit or see him I wanted to capture a moment to remember him. I am ever grateful for this. We returned to the hotel for a night of rest with the hopes to see grandpa in the am; only to receive a call from Shawna that he had left his mortal body at 2:45a.m., Tuesday, December 9th. I will be forever greatful for the time, which was short but ever valuable of having grandpa in my life. The stories and memories of his life with live on with in each of us through out our lives.
